Hey there! I’m so excited for you because you’re obviously thinking about starting your own online course business and using video to create your lessons, which is a great move! At this stage, you may be feeling out of your depth with all you need to learn. I can sympathise because I’ve been there too - at University where I studied film & video production as well as getting started in this online course business.
Let me reassure you that you are in good hands when it comes to these subjects.
While I grew up in the UK, I got my BSc in Film & Video Production at a university in SC where I crewed on other films as well as made my own. Following that, I worked for a Christian mission agency as their videographer, making videos and travelling quite a bit of Europe (yeah, that was fun - and exhausting!). I also did some freelance work and coaching, including teaching video workshops at a university.
So what brought me to this point now?
Each of us has our own story as to why we want to create an online course business. Mine is because I became too unwell to continue doing the mission and freelance work and needed to find a way to work from home with the flexibility of working as and when I was able. I have POTS (autonomic dysfunction) which, among many other things, meant I struggled to be upright and battled disabling fatigue.
Thankfully, a protocol that I started 3yrs after the onset of my decline meant that I could resume a more normal lifestyle again - and I was well enough to have my son in September 2017. He became an additional reason for me to want to work from home.
Starting an online course business has been a learning experience!
I honestly had no idea when I got started how to go about starting an online course business and I went about it all wrong. I later found out that many new course creators do the same thing and I wasn’t alone. Those that didn’t give up often found great success with their courses when figuring out the right way. And I was determined to do that myself.
I bought and completed courses, listened to free training, consumed podcasts and books, paid for coaching, and ultimately became immersed in the course creation ‘world’. Three years and lots of learning later, I can look back and see all the mistakes I had made and how I could have done things differently for a faster success story!
I want to save you the struggle I had.
Whether that’s teaching you how to use video to create higher quality video to connect with your students and boost the credibility of your content and brand, providing support and additional training for video and course creation in the membership, or diving deeper by doing one-to-one coaching, my goal is to help you achieve the results you want faster and easier.
